METHOD KIT - TECH BUILDING BLOCKS

When going through the method kit (tech building blocks), we brainstormed ideas by putting different combinations of cards together. We were able to think abstractly as well by thinking outside the box with the different combinations of cards.

Top ideas:

  • Nutrition/health

  • Pollution and environmental issues

  • Time

  • Memory/music

METHOD KIT - PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

When conducting this activity, we thought of our next steps and how to create a product with the user in mind.

Ideas:

  • Interactions

  • Emotions

  • Catering to the user’s needs

  • Figuring out the user’s journey

  • Looking at similar products for inspiration

We did not map out our next steps completely with these cards, but they provided us with insight on how to approach the design process with the user in mind.

SCENARIO MAP

In this Scenario Map, it follows the story of someone experiencing frequent short term memory loss, and receiving a diagnosis for Alzheimer disease.

This story shows someone with a early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Patients at this stage would need recall assistance.

SECONDARY RESEARCH METHOD

Alzheimer's Disease
  • Degenerative disorder that causes brain cells to deteriorate and die

Early stages

Difficulty remembering

Example: Forgetting to take pills and losing personal items

Further stages

Requires a lot of assistance

Example: Not be able to carry out daily tasks as they used to and memory is deeply impaired

Affected individuals seek independence

of Alzheimer’s and

dementia

44 000 000

Worldwide, 44

of Alzheimer’s

and dementia

PRIMARY RESEARCH METHOD

Researching and Writing

After conducting secondary research....

We conducted 5 interviews to get gain insight and contextual understanding on the issue of Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss.

Interviews were with:

  • Alzheimer’s patients

  • Family member of Alzheimer’s patient

  • Caregivers

AFFINITY DIAGRAM

Our team followed the activity to find trends. We brainstormed various ideas to improve the user experience for Alzheimer's disease patients. We grouped similar stickies together to form categories.

The categories were:

  • Stimulating Environment

  • Challenges

  • Assistive Aid

  • Mood

  • Wearables

  • Problem Solving

  • User Profile

  • Support

  • Future 5 Years

PERSONA

Old Lady

Goals

  • To become more independently.

  • To perform daily activities and routines.

Frustration

  • Dealing with Alzheimer’s is expensive.

  • Having to depend on someone.

  • Learning process might be challenging.

She is looking for a way to be independent. She is looking for a way in which she can get reminded of where her things are kept. Moreover, she doesn't want her loved ones worrying for her.

JOURNEY MAP

We mapped out the user’s journey and included our Nudge system. This journey map shows how Nudge can improve a user’s experience with early stage Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

We mapped out  ideas based on the concepts we brainstormed.

Displayed are some of the initial sketches done for concepts discussed in previous weeks.

Here we explore form and function most convenient for the each scenario
